Mission Statement

The mission of CASA of Oklahoma County is to provide trained court appointed volunteers who advocate for the best interests of abused or neglected children in the juvenile court system.

CASA of Oklahoma County Program

The Oklahoma County CASA Program began in 1987 with the hiring of the first program coordinator under the Oklahoma County Juvenile Bureau at the request of Judge Sid Brown. The first class of CASA volunteers were sworn in during March, 1987.

CASA programs are mandated under the Oklahoma Children's Code, Title 10 OS. 7003-3.7 to serve in each of the 26 Judicial Districts of the State. Located in Oklahoma City, Judicial District 7, CASA of Oklahoma County is the only CASA program appointed to serve Oklahoma County, the largest jurisdiction in the state. National CASA best practice standards, and now Oklahoma State law, require that One CASA Supervisor or Case Manager is available for every 30 volunteers. These CASA volunteers speak out for the most vulnerable of our society--abused and neglected children. Without the help of CASA volunteers these children would not have a voice and would be left to navigate an unyielding, unfamiliar and frightening system alone. Every day, abused and neglected children from ages 1 day up to 18 years are removed from the only home and life they have ever known to enter a system of strangers, court rooms and "temporary parents," often separted from the one person they cared about or that ever kept them safe. They are removed from friends, schools, activities, teachers, church families and of course biological families all in the hope of providing safety and improving their lives. The headlines in Oklahoma tell a different story. Attorneys have caseloads of 900 or more children, case workers under the worst conditions change seven to twelve times in a year and under the best, two or three. A CASA Volunteer, with only the child's best interest to focus on, can make a huge difference in the life of a child.

CASA of Oklahoma County, Inc. is a non-profit organization 501(c)3 governed by a volunteer board of directors.
