August CASA Class Begins
Show you Support their Gift of Time and Talent
with your Gift of $5 * $50 * $500

August 23 has arrived and we have 20 eager volunteers taking part in the noon portion of CASA training.  To a person they are praising Alex Corbitt, our volunteer recruiter, for his swift response to their inquiries.  One future CASA comments that she visited our website two days ago, she's been considering devoting her time as a CASA for several years, immediately the next morning Alex phoned her and here she is today introducing herself.

Tonight at 6 PM more volunteers will begin their 40 hours of training.  Once the listening, Q & A and note taking is past, these fabulous members of our community will be sworn in by a Juvenile Judge as Court Appointed Special Advocates.  They then become integral to a child's future.  They assist the judicial process as the eyes and ears of Oklahoma County's abused and neglected children.  The knowledge they obtain in their time spent observing, investigating and standing by the children of the case they are assigned is of paramount importance to the entire court case. The truth they find is used, in part, to determine the safest, most important next phase of each child's young life: a permanent home where they might thrive and, at last, be protected from abuse and neglect.

Once assigned a case by a Juvenile Judge our volunteer will spend minimally 3 - 5 hours each week advocating on behalf of a child, or the children, within the case they are assigned.

Please go to our Facebook Page, CASA of Oklahoma County, Inc. to "like us" and view  more photos of CASAs, you'll see people who advocate and provide a voice to the abused and neglected children of Oklahoma County. They look like you, they look like me, but truly, they are the image of angels.
